Emergency Dentistry

Toothache and dental pain can be very debilitating and something you shouldn't have to live with on a daily basis. Should you be experiencing any discomfort or pain please call one of our friendly Blacktown dentists straight away. We strive to help any patient with toothache as quickly as possible. We are here to look after your health and wellbeing.

Why does it occur and what causes it?

Tooth pain is a condition that can be caused by many different factors. The top three major causes of tooth pain include:
  • Tooth Decay: Occurs when the bacteria has reached the roots of the teeth resulting in an abscess.
  • Fractured Tooth or Filling: An exposed nerve can cause an abscess as well as excruciating dental pain.
  • Gum Disease: There are many ways gum disease can cause tooth pain, especially if left untreated and it develops into periodontitis.
These are the most common, so there could be other factors that may cause dental pain. In order to find out the cause we will need to perform a quick examination of your mouth.

Teeth Whitening

There's nothing quite like a pearly smile - one that can brighten a room and leave you feeling on top of the world!
Blacktown Dental Centre offer two ways in which we can whiten your teeth:

Home Whitening

Whitening your teeth at home involves wearing a thin plastic tray, which is moulded to your teeth. These trays hold a bleaching agent against the surface of your teeth. In only just 45 minutes a day you can get up to four to five shades whiter teeth in 7 – 14 days.

In-Office Whitening

This is a quick and easy process which takes about 1 hour to complete in the comfort of our office. We apply a strong bleaching gel on to your teeth which gives you up to 5 shades whiter teeth in less than the time it takes to watch your favourite movie on our overhead television screens.

Porcelain Crowns

A traditional porcelain crown for your teeth can solve a host of problems, from lost fillings and root canals to cracking or fracturing of the tooth. Porcelain crowns are similar to porcelain veneers in that they create a more aligned and symmetrical appearance of your teeth, however have the added medical bonus of tooth crowns.

At Blacktown Dentist we'll make an initial impression of your teeth and tailor the crown to fit the exact dimensions of your damaged tooth or teeth. We'll also make sure it exactly matches the colour of the rest of your teeth.

Porcelain crowns have been known to last for decades with proper care and can even help with chewing or speaking problems that may have been caused by the damaged tooth.

Porcelain Veneers

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are a thin, strong shell of porcelain made to fit over the visible surface of your tooth.

Reasons You May Require Porcelain Veneers

  • Family inherited appearances: You may have slight crowding in your front teeth and may not want braces. Alternatively, you may have gaps or discoloured spots or even unusually shaped teeth.
  • Trauma: You may have had an accident at some point, and may have chipped or cracked your front teeth or required root canal work. Your tooth may have gone grey.
  • Childhood antibiotics: Although not as common these days, certain antibiotics given to you as a child may have left horizontal stains on your front teeth. In most cases, bleaching is ineffective. Porcelain veneers have been found to be very effective in improving such smiles.
  • Wear and Tear: With age our teeth do wear down. This can deteriorate your smile and self-confidence. In such a scenario, veneers are clearly an option to improve your smile.
Porcelain veneers are a common dental procedure and can immediately improve the appearance of your teeth and overall look of your smile.

How long do they last?

Porcelain veneers will typically last between ten to fifteen years, so they will eventually need to be replaced. To make your veneers last longer, follow a good oral hygiene program and make sure you have regular hygiene appointments. We will also provide you with some handy hints to ensure that your veneers last longer. Regular care and maintenance is crucial.

Dental Implants

We love dental implants at Blacktown Dentist. Although they sound scary, they're the most revolutionary dentistry we've seen.

Titanium implants are placed into the jaw bone that act like the base of your denture or tooth. The bone grows into the titanium forming an almost perfect and unbreakable union. A porcelain tooth is then attached to the implant giving you something that looks and feels like a real tooth but doesn't decay.

We use dental implants to replace one tooth or an entire arch of teeth. If you're interested in dental implants come and see one of our friendly and experienced dentists for an assessment and consultation.

Invisalign Teeth Straightening

Straighten your teeth practically invisibly and gain back your confidence!
No longer having to worry about going out in public with clunky braces, Invisalign allows you to correct that crooked smile without affecting your current lifestyle.

In most cases, the only way other people will know you have them is if you tell them!

At Blacktown Dentist, we're excited to share the secrets of Invisalign with you. We know experience and affordability are important factors, so we make sure we give you our best work at the best price.

The Invisalign Process

When you begin treatment, you'll wear each set of custom-made aligners in approximately two-week increments. The aligners gently move your teeth into position, and at the end of each two week period, you ‘graduate' to the next set of custom-made aligners

Clear, Comfortable, Removable

One of the best qualities of Invisalign aligners is that they can be removed when necessary, such as for brushing and flossing your teeth or a formal event.

Decreased Treatment Time

One of the most common Invisalign questions we receive at Blacktown Dentist is about the length of treatment. The average course of treatment for Invisalign takes about one year. You will be required to come in to see us every 6 to 8 weeks for adjustments and to check your progress. Throughout the treatment process, you will receive a new set of custom moulded clear aligners, which will be changed every two weeks.
There is no set number of aligners for everyone, as each person teeth are different and require a different degree of alignment. While Invisalign will not be ideal for everyone, it has proven effective for a majority of dental patients seeking straighter teeth.

If you're experiencing bad breath, our fresh breath appointments at our Blacktown Dental Centre can help you feel the freedom that comes with confident and healthy breath.

During your fresh breath appointment, your hygienist will assess your diet, your hygiene patterns and the amount of protein and bacteria in your mouth. All this will assist in providing solutions to the problem of bad breath (Halitosis).

We will also provide the specific products and treatment for Halitosis based on other conditions that may be attributing factors; such as symptoms associated with dry mouth (Xerostomia). These may be the side effects of some prescription drugs or medical conditions that affect the salivary glands, or even the usage of tobacco products.

Tooth Grinding and Snoring Solutions

Tired of having your partner keep you awake with their gnashing, grinding and snoring?
At Blacktown Dentist we have three areas of specialty treatments to help control tooth grinding and snoring so you can wake up feeling fresh from a good night's sleep:

Occlusal Splint for Tooth Grinding

Uncontrolled tooth grinding (especially during sleep) can wear away teeth and cause unhealthy stress on the tooth structure. Causes for tooth grinding vary: daily tension is the most common trigger. The results if left unchecked can lead to all sorts of problems such as headaches, neck aches, problems with the jaw joint, sensitivity of the teeth, wearing down of the tooth surfaces resulting in a change in your bite and even cracked teeth. Often an Occlusal Splint is required to protect against this problem. Splints are used to restore functional harmony and are fabricated with clear acrylic occlusal pads which allow for easy adjustment. Not only will a splint protect your teeth, it will also alleviate discomfort associated with this problem.

Anti-Snoring Appliances

Snoring is an annoying problem with several side effects. It can be disturbing for your partner; it disrupts your sleep and can also be a sign of high blood pressure or hypertension. Most importantly though it could be a warning that you suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) which could be life threatening. If required, we will refer you to a sleep specialist for further investigation.

Sleep Apnoea

Currently, Sleep Apnoea affects 1 in 5 Australian adults. Most people think only of snoring, but obstructive sleep apnoea is more serious and can lead to heart disease, strokes or heart attacks. It can cause interruptions to breathing many times during sleep, with episodes lasting from 10 seconds to 2 minutes. Mostly the person wakes up ending the episode, but rarely remembers doing so.

Do you suffer from any of the following symptoms?

  • Tiredness on waking
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness
  • Choking or gasping during sleep
  • Sore dry throat on waking; morning headaches
  • Poor concentration; memory deterioration
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Irritability
  • Anxiety or depression
  • Decrease in job performance

Our specialised dentists can help you with a special dental appliance that prevents the airways from collapsing during sleep.

Root Canal Treatment

If your symptoms include the following you may need root canal therapy:

  • General pain
  • Sensitivity to heat and cold
  • Tooth discolouration
  • Swelling or soreness in the gums surrounding the tooth

Root canal therapy, also referred to as Endodontics, can help relieve this pain and inflammation by removing a tooth's dead or inflamed nerve. The nerve space is then filled to prevent further bacterial infection.

At Blacktown Dentist, our specialised and caring dental therapists can help relieve these symptoms.
Some root canal treatments can even be done in one visit.
Root canal treatments start from $650
