What options are available for whitening?

Our custom teeth whitening packages give you the opportunity for in chair or take-home whitening to brighten your smile.

Our take-home kits contain a set of custom teeth whitening trays and whitening gel. The whitening gel is applied to the inner surface of the custom tray and inserted into the mouth for 15-60 minutes a day. This will depend on individual needs which will be discussed with your dentist prior to use. Trays should be used for 2-3 weeks for best results.

For patients with sensitive teeth, products developed in recent years provide a gentler process to allow for whitening without the added sensitivity.

Prefer to have the whitening done all at once? In-chair whitening is a 1.5hr appointment where the whitening is done in the clinic by a dental professional. This appointment will follow a short consultation appointment to ensure that your teeth are suitable for this treatment and give you the best outcome possible for your whitening experience. For best results, at home trays should be used for 5-7 days post in chair whitening. These custom trays and whitening gel are provided as part of the whole package.

Do I need to come for an appointment before I have my whitening treatment?

Prior to any whitening treatment, one of our dentists will discuss with you the best options for treatment and answer any questions you may have regarding the process. This is also to ensure that we can meet your expectations for your whiter smile.

Is the whitening permanent?

It is a natural process that teeth will become darker and yellow over time. in order for whitening to improve the appearance of teeth over an extended period, it needs to be maintained. This can be achieved by wearing the custom home trays intermittently. The frequency for maintenance is personal to each patient and will be determined by patient preference and discussions with your dentist.

What if I have previous fillings, crowns or veneers?

Unfortunately whitening won’t colour of any pre-existing restorations. Any dental work that is in an aesthetic area should be completed before the whitening process starts. There are plenty of aesthetic options for replacing old or unslightly restorations which can be done before your whitening treatment. This can be discussed with your dentist at the consultation appointment and any concerns can be addressed.

Can everyone have whitening treatment?

Whitening treatment is safe for most of the population however for some patients, whitening may not be recommended. These patients include children under 18 years, patients who have very sensitive teeth, pregnant women, some medical conditions or patients with untreated gum disease. Any concerns should be discussed with your dentist prior to commencing whitening treatment.
